The Nature Experience Trail

A special trail for special people

Intact forests, meadows in full bloom and a preserve at the foot of the towering Odle peaks. The Nature Experience Trail on Zannes/Zans is the first wheelchair accessible trail and it aims to bring visitors closer to the unique natural and cultural landscapes of the Nature Park Puez-Odle. It is a beautiful circular path, which is equipped with panels that provide information about the genesis and the natural features of the area.

From the car park Zannes/Zans, the trail leads through "Piuswiese" meadow to a game reserve, past a lime kiln, and then to "Kelderer Wiese" hut and the forester's house, and back to the car park. The maximum upward slope is eight percent, and there are several rest areas along the trail. The names of the various stations – “Please-touch mountains” and “Nature’s concert hall” being just two examples – reflect the type of information available at each stop. The stations also provide information concerning the park’s flora and fauna, and about how humans have affected the landscape of Funes/Villnöss Valley. The wood sculptures at some of the trail’s stations were created by handicapped artisans at "Der Kirschbaum" workshop in Bolzano/Bozen. The Centre for the Blind St. Raphael Bolzano/Bozen translated the texts into Braille.

The Nature Experience Trail is particular indicated for older people, families with children and the disabled.
