Hiking is healthy! A long-term study conducted by the Medical University in Innsbruck has confirmed this. Experts in high-altitude medicine have investigated the effects of living at higher elevations and determined the following positive effects of vacationing and hiking in the mountains (three weeks or more at mid-level altitudes of 800 to 1,300 m above sea-level).
