Keschtnigl in Feldthurns
The noble chestnut, known primarily as the delicious, roasted “Keschtn” during the Törggelen in ancient vintners’ cottages, is one of the Eisacktal’s autumn fruits.
The aim of the “Keschtnrunde” in Feldthurns is to preserve and revive the ancient cultivation of chestnuts and associated traditions. One special event centred on this fine South Tyrolean fruit is the Autumn Keschtnigl in Feldthurns. The programme ranges from a symposium on natural-history rambles and folk-story telling in the castle to the Niglmarkt with rural and craft specialities, market stalls and music. Meanwhile, the restaurants provide tasty local fare with the emphasis on chestnuts.
