Herrensteige
From Zans (1,680 metres) walk west of the game enclosure in a steep ascent through the forest to the “Unterer Herrensteig” (1,950 metres).

Trip description: Start: 9 a.m. / arrival at 5 p.m. Meeting point: Zanser Alm Description: From Zans (1,680 metres) walk west of the game enclosure in a steep ascent through the forest to the “Unterer Herrensteig” (1,950 metres). From here walk in a westerly direction to the “Villtatsch Bank” and the Kofel meadow (1,950 metres). Ascend to the Furtschellen Saddleback. Along the “Oberer Herrensteig” (highest point at 2,250 metres) in an easterly direction to the Ötz stream (1,960 metres). A short but steep descent to Caseril and back to Zans. Theme: Since the 16th Century, a lot of woodlands were owned by the Tyrolean Lords. In these "Herrenwäldern" (Lords’ forests), they built "Herrensteige" (Lords’ paths). Today, the “Herrensteige“ are open to the public. Both paths run parallel to the southern side of the Ruefen mountain chain (Afer Geisler). The lower path leads you mostly through forests, the upper path through rocky grassland. Bookings: in all nature park Tourist Board offices.
