Reinhold Messner – Short Biography
A man living at the edge. An author, Alpine farmer, born on September 17, 1944 in Villnoess/Funes. The Geisler Peaks were the site of his first success as a mountain-climber, when as a child he climbed his first summit together with his family.
For 30 years, now, Reinhold Messner has been numbered among the world's most-successful mountain-climbers: In approx. 3,500 expeditions, he has been the first to climb about 100 summits. He has climbed all 14 mountains with an elevation of 8,000 meters or more. He has traversed the continent of Antarctica by foot, as well as crossing the length of Greenland, Tibet, the Gobi Desert, and Takla Makan.
