Gourmet Weeks
Speck Festival in Villnöß
The production of Speck, speciality ham and bacon, is a tradition going back hundreds of years in South Tyrol.
The Villnöss valley dedicates a whole weekend in October to this top quality product. The festival starts on Saturday with the motto “Rural Heritage”, during which an insight is given into the work and customs of farmers, and the Villnöss Brillenschaf sheep takes pride of place. Excellent bread is baked in the show ovens and various farmers sell products from their own farms. And of course the farmers’ crafts aren’t forgotten either. On Sunday there’s a special highlight on the programme every year. The unveiling of the Speck crown, the longest table of Speck ... the organisers always come up with something new. Alongside various Speck specialities you can also enjoy a colourful programme of entertainment, the crowning of the Speck Queen, and a contest to find the World Champion Speck Slicer.
